Well before there's any thought of blueprints, Greg Dorland grabs his ladder, climbs a tree, and settles into what will become the centerpiece view from his next lodge. Here he sees the world around him as one would see it from their front room, or their suite, or even their bathroom. It could be a radiant wall of glass consumed by views of the mountain and the ski slopes that fall from it. Or a pine-framed window on the staircase that thoughtfully accentuates an otherwise unseen patch of aspen. With this start, he creates lodges with views, light, and the kinds of exposure that inspire a silent reverence.

The results of his efforts are shown here, homes influenced by the great lodges of the American west, homes that embrace - rather than conquer and remove - those natural features that accentuate life at Squaw Valley.
